Schubert’s Winterreise is a powerful song cycle exploring despair, memory, hope, and humanity’s relationship with nature. This contemporary interpretation reimagines the work within a rural Alberta landscape, reflecting themes of isolation, uncertainty, and transformation that remain deeply resonant today. The project brings together baritone Brett Polegato, visual artist Eveline Kolijn, emerging pianists Cindy Zhang and Jack Olszewski, and a collaborative creative team to create a multidisciplinary experience combining music, visual art, and film.
