From the artist:
This ongoing series deals with narratives and memory as well as the environment and our place within it. A series of “prairie ghosts” speaks to the history and perseverance of family and struggle as well as the abandonment of those precious homesteads of the early 1900’s. These disturbed landscapes are fraught with memories, long faded but still lingering.
The buildings, straining to remain, alone and resilient against the elements, will ultimately disintegrate back into the landscape. This reclaiming by the land forms a series of mysteries, offering a great depth for potential narratives. These are the stories I want to tell.
These pieces are made using my own photography, which I transfer to the under painted surface. Using many layers and glazes of acrylic paint, I develop the mood and transparency of the image to support the imagined narrative of the work.
