ALEXANDRA WRITERS’ CENTRE SOCIETY
AWCS is here to help you tell your story. The society was created to help hobby writers, professionals, and screen writers hone their skill or provide guidance for publishing. Whether you are seeking creativity or looking to improve technical writing skills, you can join hundreds of other writers ranging in all ages and subject matter.

ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE
Founded in 1947, Alliance Française is not only an educational organization but also a Global network with deep roots in the French language and francophone culture. The Calgary chapter hosts many cultural events and gatherings, be sure to check out Café Philo – a French breakfast at cSPACE Marda Loop on September 28th. Browse the beautiful library located on the 3rd floor of the cSPACE Marda Loop Building, or take up a French language class for any level of learning.
Alliance Française provides beginner to advanced classes and action-based teaching to prepare you for travel, business, or just casual conversation.

ATELIER ARTISTA
ATELIER ARTISTA is the working studio of Brian Batista, an artist, educator, and mentor with a diverse artistic background in animation, video, sculpture, painting, and drawing. Brian currently teaches at the Alberta College of Art and Design, Quickdraw Animation Society, and at Swinton’s, and will be opening a private atelier and school at cSPACE Marda Loop.
Be sure to stop by Atelier Artista on Alberta Culture days for a drop in demonstration and open house as well as drop in clothed figure life drawing session. Learn more about available courses:

The CAAF Residency is a program offered by the Calgary Allied Arts Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports and encourages the development of art and culture in Calgary.

Natalie Gerber hosts Studio Workshops and produces a sophisticated lifestyle collection of home décor, fashion accessories, and textile collections. Learn a range of skills such as Yardage Printing, Screen Printing, Block Printing, Natural Dyeing, and Indigo Dyeing for beginner to advanced techniques. PAULA TIMM ARTIST+STUDIO
Paula Timm is a visual artist, instructor and writer inspired by observing the narrative in urban and rural life. An advocate for Creativity, Paula partners with Calgary artists and not-for-profit organizations to foster community engagement initiatives that promote and encourage the healing relationship between wellness and creativity. Her hope is to inspire others to consider their own personal journey and its important connection to self-expression.
Join Paula Timm in her studio on Friday evening for a Fireside Chat for a lively discussion on her journey to entrepreneurship, through creativity and wellness. Don’t forget to sign up for creative demonstrations and mixed media workshops on Saturday or pop in to meet some of our other talented instructors.
QUEST THEATRE
Come visit Quest Theatre on the 3rd Floor of cSPACE Marda Loop for some shadowy adventures. Bring your parents, come play in the lights, and make some amazing stories! If you bring your imaginations, we’ll bring the fun. Enjoy our mini shadow theatre or go big with wall projections.
We’ll be there to explore with you from 10am – 5pm on September 27 & 28! Who says you can’t play in the halls? We may even have some special guests come out to visit… SEE YOU THERE!.
RIYOKO CLOTHING + WORKSHOPS
Designed by Kristi Woo, Riyoko is a sustainable clothing brand that is ethically sourced and sewn in Calgary. Find pieces tailored for freedom while travelling by bike, plane, or foot, to anywhere.

Blackboard Gallery is a commercial jewellery gallery curated by artist and maker, Shona Rae. Shop a curated collection produced by Fine Art Jewellers, located on the 2nd floor of the cSPACE Marda Loop building.
Every artisanal piece is handcrafted with Goldsmith standards and precision.

Finding a Common Thread
Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild of Calgary will be doing interactive demonstrations with spinning wheels and looms—the tools they use to create cloth from scratch! They will explain how these work and invite you to explore the possibilities. Guild members will also be on-hand to discuss the 40 Mile Coat project, and how they collaboratively used materials sourced within a 40-mile radius of the Calgary Ring Road. The 40 Mile Coat exemplifies the guild’s mandate “to provide a forum for creative inspiration and shared knowledge in weaving, spinning and related fibre-arts”, and will on display until September 30. The Heritage Weavers and Spinners began in 1978 and continue to be actively involved in the Calgary fibre arts community. We offer weaving, spinning, dyeing and related fibre art workshops and classes throughout the year, and hold an annual fall sale.

Visit us and experience this unique process for yourself and hand print a postcard on our 100 year old press. Explore the studio, see the letterpress goodness up close and shop for hand printed stationery and paper goods.

Art, Music, and Wellness
L4 in the RGO Treehouse
This community outreach event comprises two engaging presentations built around the 2019 Culture Days theme of Creativity, the Arts, and Wellbeing. Attendees will gain insight to research linking creativity and wellness.

Presented by artist Dick Averns.
Attendees can share their own insight by contributing personal narratives in either of the Q+A sessions following each talk and during the discussions. Art, Music and Wellbeing is a SITE cPROJECT promoting wellbeing through artistic programming and creative peer support, for anyone touched by mood disorders. cPROJECTS are an initiative of OBAD (Organization for Bipolar Affective Disorder). Buchanan’s book, Wellness Incorporated, will also be for sale.
This event is free. You may attend either the whole event or just one or two components.
Pre-registration via Eventbrite is encouraged. Drop-in attendance welcome based on space.

Come out to honour and celebrate the Iinii, the buffalo that once were a part of this robust environment. Create beautiful lanterns to carry in procession, watch films, share in song, dance, and story, and celebrate the history of the buffalo of this land.
Guided by Blackfoot Elder, Raymond Many Bears with additional stories by Troy Emery Twigg, and lantern-puppets from “Iinisikimm” a homecoming for the buffalo of Canada. Drumming by Anders Hunter of Eya Hey Nakoda. Build lanterns in free workshops and join the procession that will end in a round dance.

Wolves Unleashed – Against All Odds, is the next film in the award-winning series which follows world renowned animal trainer, Andrew Simpson.
Andrew’s Alberta based company, Instinct Animals for Film, trains and cares for wolves featured in major motion pictures like The Revenant. Perhaps most famous is Quigley, the wolf who starred as Jon Snow’s direwolf “Ghost” in Game of Thrones.

Get your feet wet with wet felting and fibre artist, Cindy Giesbrecht. Fun for all ages!
In 15 minutes, create a small fun felted piece to take home. Try this centuries-old technique in a decidedly fun manner as Cindy walks you through the different types of wool and how they are used to create everything from a yurt to a mohair sweater.
