Jan Karlsson grew up in Stockholm, Sweden and trained as a typographer there. His parents were artistic and his mother was a professional dress designer. His father focused on silver smithing, ceramics and sculpting and his maternal grandmother was a landscape artist.
Jan immigrated to Canada in the late 60’s and for more than 35 years worked as a printer at the Calgary Herald newspaper. He has had a passion for art most of his life which influenced his children to take art degrees.
Jan pays attention to detail which is evident in his art. His drawings have intricate detail with repetitive patterns. His subject matter is surreal and imaginative. Jan is passionate about art and has devoted his entire life to creating his one of a kind masterpieces.
