Meet an Artist:
Peter Moller

From March 25th to April 15th, Peter Moller showcases New Works at cSPACE Marda Loop, in the Level 1 gallery space. 

In the landscape of Calgary’s artistic community, Peter Moller stands out, driven by an aspiration to foster change. With a career spanning over five decades, Moller’s dedication to nurturing creativity has left an indelible mark on the city’s artistic tapestry.

Moller’s journey intersects with the transformation of the historic King Edward School into a thriving hub for creation resonated deeply with him. Beyond its capacity to inspire and promote the arts, Moller admired cSPACE’s commitment to preserving Calgary’s architectural heritage. For him, repurposing such landmarks embodies a meaningful approach to urban development, one that honours the past while building for the future.

Reflecting on his lifelong connection to Calgary, Moller reminisces about witnessing the city’s evolving arts scene since his arrival in 1958. He marvels at the growth and support the community has garnered over the years, recognizing its role in shaping a stronger and healthier city. As an agent of change, Moller harbours a hope for continued development and support for the arts, believing it to be integral to Calgary’s cultural vitality.

I do as much as I can possibly get away with. I figure there’s no limit to how one creates so my sense is that all modes of creation should be open to experimentation.

Since I last exhibited at cSPACE I’ve developed a couple of series. One represents portraits of local artists whose work has been inspirational to me over many decades. Another is a series of drawings relating to places that hold an emotional connection for me. There are other works as well including hi-res prints of select illustrations from the Egg Press archive.

Central to Moller’s artistic ethos is the joy he finds in his surroundings, particularly to the nearby natural wonders of the mountains and foothills. This connection to nature permeates his work, infusing it with a sense of awe and appreciation for the beauty that surrounds him.

Through his website, Moller invites visitors to embark on a journey through his prolific career, spanning a diverse range of projects and practices. Peter Moller has run Egg Press Co., a Calgary-based graphic and sound design establishment, since probably before you were born or… 1976. He is the recipient of a number of Betty Mitchell and Elizabeth Sterling Haynes awards and nominations for his theatre sound designs.
