cSPACE Marda Loop, Level 2 Gallery and Art Park
Alberta Craft Council is offering this fun drop-in workshop and informative demonstration in conjunction with cSPACE and Farmers & Makers Market.
Matthew Gil will teach you how to create your own quirky paper rosette fish, and Carmen Vazquez-Mackay will will be demonstrating her Ixchel Textiles backstrap weaving practice.
About the artist: Matthew Gil is currently pursuing a BFA in Painting with a minor in Ceramics at the Alberta University of the Arts. He is part of the Crawlspace Gallery and Artist Collective, where he makes intuitive abstract paintings focusing on composing colour, form, and other visual elements to create harmonic arrangements. He has joined the Alberta Craft Council for the summer and is excited to share fun make’n’take activities!

Singer-songwriter Melyssa Lee crafts memoirs into poignant and vulnerable songs. Drawing inspiration from folk roots and the emotive energy of the Lilith era, her songs are a blend of warmth, vulnerability, and strength. Lee’s vocals range from tender to soul-stirring crescendos in the style of Sarah McLachlan, Dido, Jewel, and Dolores O’Riordan.
She is joined by multi-instrumentalist Jerevieux, who enjoys delivering
lead melodies along arpeggiated bass via Chapman Stick® and other instruments. Together, this harmonizing duo offers a unique sound through their combined musical styles and strengths. Melyssa Lee’s powerful lyrics, together with Jerevieux’s emotively laid-out melodies, will undoubtedly create a magical connection amongst listeners.

Toni Vere is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose music carries the grit of lived experience and the grace of hard-won resilience. Rooted in folk and traditional music, her storytelling is honest and unforgettable. Original songs draw upon themes of personal struggle, social justice, and quiet defiance, blending poetic lyricism with raw, resonant melodies. While her songs often explore serious terrain, Toni also brings a light-hearted, humorous touch to the stage, with a voice that carries both tenderness and strength, and a pen that doesn’t shy away from truth.

Saturday, July 5th during the Farmers & Makers Market at cSPACE Marda Loop we will be featuring two artists working at Metrographics Art + Design: Doug Driediger and Elana Bushan!
Metrographics is a multi-disciplinary design and advertising studio where ‘graphic design’ and ‘fine art’ each have something to say. The Metro team has successfully completed projects that range in scope from identity development, marketing, publications and web design to large scale public murals, high profile exhibitry and world-class interpretive displays.
Doug Driediger was born in Calgary, and graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design with honours. He is a member of Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, and the Graphic Designers of Canada. He likes working in series, having previously completed a ‘painting-a-day’ for a year, a self-portrait a week for a year, and portraits of the 12 Apostles, reimagined in present day settings using his circle of friends as his inspiring models. Recent work has been focused on celebrating birds: as friends, as metaphors, and inspiration to contemplate freedom, beautiful otherness.
Elana Bushan is a professional visual artist and muralist living and working in Calgary, AB, Canada. She likes to combine both realism and abstract art in her work, and uses various techniques in oil, acrylic, watercolour, mixed media, alcohol ink, charcoal, pastel, digital art, and clay. She is continuously exploring new media and ideas. Her work has been featured in shows in Canada and Europe, and can be found in many private collections.

Drawing inspiration from life’s experiences, Ben effortlessly weaves tales of love, loss, and personal growth into his poignant lyrics. Each lyric is carefully crafted, delivering a heart-felt message that speaks directly to the hearts of his listeners. His melodies soar and his voice exudes raw emotion, painting a vivid picture that allows his audience to connect to his music on a profound level.

Since 2016, Earl Morgan have been the soundtrack to many unforgettable nights around western Canada. An acoustic duo consisting of Colton Earl Palaschak and Tyler Morgan Gates, their repertoire consists of songs from artists ranging from Tragically Hip, Tom Petty, Blue Rodeo, Steve Earle, Barenaked Ladies, and Bruce Springsteen. Come out for an afternoon of harmonies, acoustic guitars, mandolins, and harmonicas!
