Subsequent studies in mathematics and computers at Simon Fraser University led to a career in information management. \nHe returned to photography as an art form in 2016. By 2023\, he concluded that the world did not need another photographer. The label had always felt like a shirt occasionally worn but never entirely comfortable. Instead\, he began calling himself a wanderer—a description that felt far more fitting. To Drysdale\, this is a liberating and playful identity\, one that frees them from unhelpful personal expectations and existential questions such as what defines a “real” photographer.

Yet these contrasts remind us of what is at stake. The land that cradles us is under threat\, and climate justice is not optional; it is essential. \nThis series asks viewers to consider how place is never one story but a gathering of countless narratives\, layered across time\, culture\, and imagination. It calls on viewers to recognize our shared responsibilities to protect the places that shape us. The land is more than a backdrop; it is a lifeline. It is about how the land cradles us all\, differently and together\, shaping the stories we live and pass on. To honour it means to act\, to defend its stories\, its balance and its future. \nAbout the Artist: \nCarrie Schurig is a Calgary-based artist whose work spans pencil drawing\, mixed media\, and painted resin\, Conceptual and representational\, her pieces explore memory\, emotion\, and the layered connections between people and place. Her current series is deeply rooted in her relationship with the land\, reflecting on how it shapes identity\, belonging\, and our sense of time. \nIn addition to her studio practice\, Carrie is a Visual Arts Specialist and Fine Arts Learning Leader with the Calgary Board of Education\, guiding students and communities to engage meaningfully with the arts. She is also embarking on a Master of Education for Change\, exploring how education can drive social and environmental transformation. \nThrough her art and teaching\, Carrie offers a distinct\, thoughtful\, and imaginative perspective on the world\, one that invites reflection\, curiosity\, and connection.

This intro covers everything you need to know to get started.\n\n\nIntroduction to Wood Burning (Pyrography) for Beginners \nLearn something new and have fun during this hands on workshop. This small class is perfect for those who are new to wood burning and want to explore the art of pyrography. This is also a good opportunity to try the Razer Tip Woodburning tool before you buy one. You will learn step by step how to create a wood burned work of art. Little art experience is necessary just some time and patience. There is something very soothing and relaxing about burning patterns into wood. You will learn how to use the wood-burner safely. We will go over the difference between the wood burning tools that are available. You will learn how to transfer your drawing onto the wood\, which wood works best\, and how to add a bit of colour. Wood is supplied and the tool that we use is the Razer Tip woodburning system. Feel free to bring your own reference material to trace or draw from or use templates provided. Some people freehand and just go for it and some people use reference material and trace their design. You can also do a bit of both:) Magically everyone does something totally different and unique to them! It’s a fun thing to do for a date night or a new activity with friends or family. There are only 4 people maximum in a class\, ages 12 and up. It’s a celebration of women who are part of a growing movement to challenge the false narrative that beauty fades with age. \nThe Fabulous Over 40 Art Exhibit shines a spotlight on the portraits and stories of women aged 40 and up. \nInstead of being shamed into the shadows\, each of these women chose to step into the light. \nThey said yes to a transformative boudoir portrait experience. They said yes to being seen. Boldly\, vulnerably\, and without apology. \nThe goal? To rewrite the story: Women over 40 are beautiful. The ticking clock is a myth. And the years ahead are something to look forward to. \nAs an artist and photographer\, my mission is to challenge outdated beauty standards and offer a new perspective. One that I see for myself every day as a boudoir photographer for women over 40. We’ve been sold a lie. There is no expiration date on beauty.
