SUMMARY:CALL presents: Read it Again
DESCRIPTION:Please note this event takes place at the Marda Loop Community Association building\, kitty corner to cSPACE Marda Loop.  \nThis recurring event\, hosted by The Calgary Association of Lifelong Learners (CALL)\, is an interest group that re-reads a classic work of fiction\, to engage in an in-depth discussion. \n“Most of us study the classics when we’re students – join us for an opportunity to re-read one of these books and discuss it from a different — dare we say – more mature perspective.” \nThe focus for the first session is on The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje\, winner of the 1992 Booker Prize. We’ll divide the book into four approximately equal sections for discussion at each of our four meetings. Participants will be asked to read the first section before our first meeting\, and come prepared each day to contribute to the discussion as well as helping to research and provide background of topics and issues that arise. \nReach out to CALL in the link below to register. \nhttps://calgarylifelonglearners.ca/Read-It-Again \nCALL is a core tenant in the cSPACE Marda Loop Creative Community.

SUMMARY:Festival of Animated Objects: One For Sorrow\, Two For Joy with Artist Talkback
DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nStudio Theatre \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nby Juanita Dawn | Runtime: 55 minutes \nIn this enchanting prairie story\, told through puppetry and music\, one woman braves adversity and befriends unlikely companions. \nSet on the Canadian prairies in the early 1900’s\, we explore the remarkable life of a resilient and tenacious woman\, Willow Mae O’Reilly. \nThe magic and wonder of this little girl’s imagination was the seed that germinated into her unconventional life. During her untethered time on the prairies she found her best friend the gopher and her sometime friend the bossy magpie. \nThese childhood spirits followed her throughout her life. Willow Mae did not always take the road most traveled but she was willing to pay the price for her independence…and that price was often very high. \nBeneath the endless sky of the wind-swept prairies\, the story of our Willow Mae unfolds revealing a life of complex emotions\, unbridled joy and heart breaking sorrow\, the right stuff for an unforgettable tale. \nOne For Sorrow\, Two For Joy has over 30 hand crafted puppets and an all original musical score making this show an extravaganza of music and puppetry! \nAlso showing on March 13 and 14 at 7 pm \nRecommended for ages 13+ \nPuppet Nudity\, Smoking\, Alcohol Use\, Sensitive Subject Matter\, Pregnancy Loss \nUse of flashing lights and Haze

SUMMARY:Camino\, an Exhibition from Greg Doherty
DESCRIPTION:Camino\, Greg Doherty\nLevel 2 cSPACE Marda Loop\nMarch 18-April 29 \nGreg draws his inspirations from art history\, nature\, light\, colours and shadows\, as shown in this exhibition. He collects the beauty of landscapes and will occasionally translate his feelings into an abstraction. \nArtist Statement \nMy original camino walk was from Saint Jean Pieds-de-Port in France to Santiago\, Spain for a total distance of 820 km. More recently\, my wife\, Lory and I\, have walked a couple more Caminos of Santiago. Our starting points have been Porto\, Portugal and Ferrol\, Spain. This latest walk included a trip to the “end of the world\,” Finisterre. \nAll along the different routes there is so much beauty. I have felt the need to respond to these beautiful scenes with some paintings. This show contains some of these efforts as well as a few other pieces that were inspired by our surroundings in Alberta. \nMy expressions move between representations and abstractions . The Camino of life moves me along a variety of roads and it is my goal to continue on this artistic path.

I love climbing for its community\, its challenges\, and its ability to take me to some of the most beautiful places in the world. Growing up\, I focused mainly on competition climbing and sport climbing in the Bow Valley near Canmore\, Alberta. Since moving to Squamish\, British Columbia in 2013\, I have enjoyed the diversity and adventurous nature of trad and multi-pitch climbing. Developing a wide range of skills has allowed me to be involved in more adventurous climbing trips and even put up first ascents in remote areas of the world including Morocco and Greenland. Climbing is the gift that keeps on giving. \n  \nACCOMPLISHMENTS:\nSep 2013 | Blue Jeans\, Mt. Yamnuska (2nd ascent\, 5.13b multipitch)\nDec 2014 | Le Zahir\, Akchour Valley\, Morocco (First ascent\, 512b multipitch)\nJul 2015 | Adder Crack\, Squamish (5.13a trad)\nAug 2016 | Southwest Buttress of Hidden Tower\, Mythics Cirque\, Greenland (First ascent\, V 5.11)\nOct 2018 | Spirit of the West (5.14a sport) \nDec 2024 | Yamnuska: The Ragged Edge Film \n\n\n\nGET OUTSIDE ADVENTURES \nOur mission at Get Outside is to empower others to explore the outdoors\, challenge themselves\, learn new skills\, and have fun doing it. \nWe focus on getting women out exploring\, connecting\, and growing. The Get Outside experience doesn’t end with the adventure\, rather\, that’s where it begins. \nPortion of proceeds from every Vikki’s Vantage Point 4-pack sold will be donated to support programming at Get Outside. \nhttps://www.getoutsideadventures.ca/ \n\n\n\nMARIYA STOKES \nKnown for her quick wit and signature retro style\, Country Music Alberta’s (CMAB) two-time Horizon Female Artist of the Year (2019 & 2020)\, Calgary\, Alberta-based country artist Mariya Stokes\, has released five singles to date and is currently recording her debut\, full-length album with Juno Award-winning producers Spencer Cheyne and Justin Kudding\, which will release in late 2023. With Stokes’ previous releases reaching over 600\,000 streams across platforms\, her current single\, “Break My Heart\,” was nominated for “Horizon Single of the Year” at the 2021 CMAB Awards. \nPartnering with Travel Alberta and representing her home province on an international stage\, Stokes showcased at the United States Tour Operators Association’s annual conference in Austin\, TX in November 2023. In addition\, she was selected to perform at the 2022 Canadian Country Music Association’s (CCMA) Songwriter Showcase and has opened for artists including Ru-Paul’s Drag Race superstar Trixie Mattel\, Doc Walker\, and Jann Arden. Stokes also co-hosted the 2020 CMAB Award Show alongside CCMA Award Winner George Canyon. \nGiving back to the communities that raised her is important to Stokes: as an artist representative on the CCMA 2022 Host Committee\, Stokes co-chaired the Legacy and Community Engagement committee and was part of the team that planned\, executed\, and highlighted the CCMA’s and Calgary during Canadian Country Music Week. She was also a 2020 Artist in Residence at the Women’s Centre of Calgary. \nhttps://www.mariyastokes.com/ \n\n\n\nPink Boots Society \nMission: The Pink Boots Society was created to assist\, inspire and encourage women and/or non-binary individual fermented and alcoholic beverage industry professionals to advance their careers through education. \nWe are the movers and shakers in the fermented and alcoholic beverage industry. We make fermented beverages with the highest possible quality. We are the women that own the companies\, package the product\, design the labels\, serve the drinks\, write about our industry – and just about everything in between. Most importantly\, we teach each other what we know through our own seminar programs\, and we help each other advance both front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house careers by raising money for educational scholarships. \nhttps://www.pinkbootssociety.org/
