DESCRIPTION:This session will look at systems and structures of governing a non-profit arts organization and tools needed to support good governance.\n\n\nAs part of the Rozsa Foundations’ ongoing commitment to supporting Alberta arts leaders\, this Intersections session (part of the Rozsa Foundations of Arts Leadership program) is being made available to arts leaders outside of the program. \nDESCRIPTION\nThis session will look at the systems and structures of governing a non-profit arts organization and what tools are needed to support good governance practices. The session will provide participants with the opportunity to explore their own organization and the role of strategy\, policies\, managing a board\, and the art of a good board meeting agenda. \nKEY LEARNING OUTCOMES\nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to: \n\nArticulate what is at the foundation of good governance practice\nClarify the roles and responsibilities of Board members\, and the relationship to Management\nRecognize different governance models\nIdentify tools to support good governance practice within their organization\nDetermine tactics for managing the Board/Executive relationship\n\nThe session is 4.5 hours long\, with a 30 minute lunch break. While some snacks will be provided\, it is recommended that you bring a lunch as the food vendors in the building are busy at lunchtime. \nPlease Note: Deadline to apply is January 14\, 2026

DESCRIPTION:What could be better than art-making\, self-discovery and tea? Envision better work-life balance through this creative workshop for adults.\n\n\nDoes your day job make you feel as jumpy as a jackrabbit? Is your desired sense of connection leaving you feeling prickly as a porcupine? Do you feel overburdened like a turtle carrying the world on its back? What changes do you need to truly thrive? \nPerhaps it’s a glimpse into what your Animal Island Utopia might look like. \nIn this workshop\, we guide you through a series of fun art-making exercises designed to gain insight into different aspects of your life — work\, health\, connection and aspirations — and unlock what’s needed to improve and find a better balance between them. \n  \nWhat is a CreativiTEA? \nCreativiTEA is an in-person workshop series for grown-ups created by Tilted Windmills that combines fun\, insightful art-making activities with community-building through creativity. \nEach two-hour CreativiTEA session includes: \n\nA guided creative activity with all art supplies provided\nSocializing and discussion with tea and delicious goodies—also provided\n\n  \nWhat you don’t need to bring to CreativiTEA? \nAny concerns about your perceived “artistic ability” or level of “talent”! From that spirited monologue characters emerge\, embodying multiple beings\, our numerous inner avatars as well as the strategies\, sometimes absurd\, that we adopt to hold our contradictions together. Threading his way along the fine line between reality and fiction\, he transforms inner discourses into a sensory experience that is both subtle and intense. He is a presenter of words\, thoughts and gestures. \nPunch Line is a series of confidences\, words made flesh\, where Jacques Poulin-Denis evokes diverse themes such as resilience and how we relate to ourselves and to others. By giving voice to his body he is also expanding the spectrum of the characters he portrays. \nPunch Line is\, of course\, the punch line of a gag. With their short format\, the jokes can in a very few words create a context that the audience subscribes to\, accepting any situation\, no matter how unreal. From quiet\, expansive landscapes to subtle moments of light and form\, his work is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between place\, presence\, and perception.  \nWorking primarily as a fine art black-and-white photographer and co-owner of The Camera Store\, Ferreira’s exhibition presents a selection of his most recent work. These photographs offer viewers an intimate glimpse into the way he sees\, thoughtful\, deliberate\, and deeply connected to the land he calls home\, inviting them to slow down and engage with the subtle beauty found in everyday surroundings. \n\nLEVEL 2: Brian Henson Memorial Exhibition\nBrian Henson was a highly regarded fine art photographer based in Calgary\, known for his dedication to traditional photographic processes and his striking hand-printed black-and-white work. He was also a longtime friend of The Camera Store and a valued presence within Calgary’s photographic community. Brian passed away in 2022\, leaving behind a meaningful and enduring legacy of meticulously crafted\, hand-printed and framed photographs that reflect both his artistic vision and his commitment to the medium.  \nIn accordance with the wishes of his estate\, Brian’s work will be offered for sale\, with all proceeds donated to the RESET Society of Calgary. RESET provides a comprehensive and compassionate system of support services in Alberta\, specifically designed to assist women who are survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Through this initiative\, Brian’s art continues to make a lasting impact\, honouring his legacy while supporting an organization dedicated to healing\, empowerment\, and positive change. \n\nLEVEL 3: Then & Now 30 Years of Calgary Photography\nIn celebration of 30 years within Calgary’s photography community\, The Camera Store is proud to present a special group exhibition. DESCRIPTION:Mixed Media Explorations! Methods and Mediums to Create Unique Art. Hosted by Lucky Small Things\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nSuite #225\nFebruary 7 and 8 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM \n  \nCreate a beautiful mixed media piece with zero experience. Explore a variety of paints and stains\, pyrography\, metal leaf and more in this two day workshop. \nLearn something new and have fun during this hands on mixed media exploration. All supplies are included in this 6 hour workshop that happens over 2 days. This small class is perfect for those who are new to art and craft or mixed media or looking for new inspiration to liven up your practice. This is also a good opportunity to try the Razer Tip Woodburning tool before you buy one if you are interested. In this 6 hour workshop you will learn step by step how to create a mixed media work of art. Little art experience is necessary just some time and patience. \nYou will have the option of using a variety of paints\, including watercolour\, gouache\, acrylic and wood stain. You will learn about the properties of all of them and the order you want to use them. You’ll get to use composite metal leaf\, including gold\, copper and silver and how to apply it. You will have the option of using the wood burning machine to create your design or add some detail. We will go over how to apply 3-D objects with the best type of glue for the job and how to seal your work if necessary. Mixed media explorations can be used to create a new vocabuary for your artwork if you already have a practice or send you in the right direction with some foundtional skills if you are just starting out. If you choose to use the woodburning tool we will go over the difference between the wood burning tools that are available and how to incorporate the technique into mixed media work. Feel free to bring your own reference material to trace or draw from or use templates provided. SUMMARY:Event: Send in the Clowns
DESCRIPTION:Send in the Clowns\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nStudio Theatre\nFebruary 13\, 7:30 PM. Doors at 7:00 PM \n  \nWhat could you expect when music creation was inspired by a clown? Icarus 3 is an improvising trio composed of Jeremy Gignoux (violin/viola)\, Keith Rodger (double bass)\, and Robin Tufts (drums\, percussion). They created their original repertoire in an unusual and experimental way: with the help of the clown. Under guidance from clown performer and educator Jacqueline Russell\, they explored their inner clowns\, which gave birth to musical compositions and improvisation games that display a joyful and wild creative energy. In a special performance\, you can expect a fun show\, stories\, emotions\, and characters are all brought to life through music\, movement and theater. \n  \nWhat can you expect from the show?  \nYou will see musicians play music but also move around the stage and be silly. The music has elements of jazz\, classical music\, traditional music\, and lots of improvisation. At times\, it will be very exploratory\, showcasing unconventional playing techniques\, at other times it will be more down to earth. We also have a few games in store. \nWith ISC on stage will be Jacqueline\, who will act as a clown-provocateur/ring leader.
