DESCRIPTION:THEATRE ENCOUNTER presents A NEW PLAY BY AMOS ALTMAN\nIn this uniquely Albertan farce\, inspired by “bedroom farces” such as One Man\, Two Guvnors and Three’s Company\, an enigmatic drifter by the name of Oakley arrives at the rural home of Dick Bigman\, with the goal to swindle the lavish ranch for as much as they can get. Innuendo pushes into raunchiness when Oakley finds themself the romantic object of the rancher’s wife\, servants\, and maybe even the lovely farmer’s daughter. \nIn this new performance experiment\, the Encounter company explores the intersection of Farce and Expressionism\, to see how their distinctive approach to physical performance can inform a comedic work. But living far from the community which raised him\, how will he parents his kids? \nThe screening will be followed by an intimate Q&A with Director Chris Hsiung and story lead\, Thomas Snow. Their collaboration on the film began over coffee when they mused about how there weren’t many positive films about fatherhood. If you’ve experienced something you can’t explain (and you’re open to telling your story) we’re accepting submissions and screening participants until October 1st. \nWe’re also inviting you to submit your questions about the paranormal in advance. A deeply personal and vibrant musical journey into the singer herself\, this project pays homage to her roots by fusing the traditions of Mexican and Latin American folk music with contemporary jazz\, flamenco\, salsa\, and huapango elements.  \nGisela’s performances\, predominantly in Spanish\, are imbued with romanticism and the rich\, vibrant flavours of Latin culture. Accompanied by a group of versatile and fine musicians in the scene — Esteban Herrera on piano\, Luis Tovar on percussion\, Daniel Nava on bass\, Jorge Villena on acoustic guitar\, and David Lavoie on trumpet—this project transforms traditional sounds into fresh\, expressive arrangements.  \nGisela Romero is a celebrated singer known for her captivating performances that blend Mexican traditional music\, Latin American rhythms\, and Latin jazz. Born in León\, Guanajuato\, Mexico\, Gisela moved to Calgary\, Alberta\, Canada in 2008\, where she has since established herself as a prominent figure in the music scene. With four albums to her name\, Gisela’s evocative voice and passionate performances have earned her critical acclaim and several prestigious nominations. She was nominated for the YYC Music Awards in 2019\, 2021\, and 2023. Additionally\, in 2023\, she received a nomination for the BreakOut West Awards in the Global Artist of the Year category. Gisela’s performances\, predominantly in Spanish\, are imbued with romanticism and the rich\, vibrant flavors of Latin culture. She has delighted audiences both in Canada and Mexico\, bringing her unique sound to a diverse array of listeners. \nSpecial thanks to our partners Aroma Café & Bar and the Casa México Foundation for their generous support of this event.
