DESCRIPTION:New and existing art works by Dana Schindelka and Danielle Bartlette \nFloors 2 and 3 cSPACE Marda Loop\nOctober 31st – November 26th\nOpening for Invited Guests Only: Thursday\, November 5pm-8pm\nLive music- Gil Tougas 5:30-7:30pm \nUPDATE: Danielle Bartlette’s CORONORAMA solo exhibition is extended until December 2th on Level 3.  \nDana Schindelka is a Calgary based visual artist who uses mixed media to examine the relationship between recollection\, reality\, and imagination. Dana uses acrylic paint and other materials\, such as metal substrates\, collage\, metallic leafing and inks to create his art and his works have been the subject of gallery representation\, private\, and business collections. \nDanielle Bartlette was born and raised in Winnipeg\, where she attended the School of Art (Fine Arts Honours Program at the University of Manitoba). In 2000\, she moved to Calgary to further her experience as an artist and currently exhibits artwork for sale through local galleries. Her paintings are scattered in homes\, private & corporate collections around Canada\, USA\, and Europe. Danielle started her own business\, Neon Milkshake Art Studio\, in 2016 and has been facilitating art classes since 2007. \nDanielle says\, “METAL Firecrackers and the Electric Bling is a selection of works created by two artists who have creative similarities and respect for one another’s practice. We are each exhibiting new and existing works. My work will exhibit selections from past series\, as well as a number of works in a new series titled CORONARAMA (created 2020-2023) which reflects the mood\, describes events and is an emotional response to the pandemic\, at different times throughout the event. Dollar Store materials\, thrift store finds juxtaposed with top quality artist materials and 24k gold on canvas/ wooden substrates are often found in the mix.”\n \n\nTogether\, these two artists are showcasing works that will catch your eye with noisy prints and/or loud colours. DESCRIPTION:Reception: November 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00pm\nExhibition runs until November 6th\n4th Floor Cupola & Suite #435\, cSPACE Marda Loop \nYou are invited to join the Calgary Allied Arts Foundation’s studio resident\, Eve Johnson\, for the opening of her exhibition The World is a Woman\, The Woman is a Worker. This exhibition is the result of her residency in the CAAF studio—a mixed media project of fibre sculpture\, and multiple “thread paintings”. These pieces explore the relationship between the earth\, women\, and capitalism. \nEve Johnson is a visual artist living and working in Calgary. Born with disabilities\, she has been creating since the age of three. While taking college level art courses at the age of sixteen\, Eve realised that the art establishment was not a good fit for her. She soon found herself ousted from this setting and began creating independently. Over ten years\, she created simply for herself and received the label of “outsider artist”. Despite this\, Eve joined the National accessArts Centre in late spring of 2021. Since joining this institution\, Eve has had her work shown locally and internationally—as far away as Seoul\, South Korea.

DESCRIPTION:cSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 2 Gallery \nSolo show of portraits by Lenore Gish. \nARTIST STATEMENT \nI SEE YOU is a tribute to the women in my life.. This collection of work delves into the complex\, diverse and intriguing community of women who have become part of my world. These ladies are a cumulation of family\, friends\, and strangers who have wandered through my studio. \nA number of my works in I SEE YOU are watercolour on paper. I’ve surrounded them with multiple layers of acrylic paint\, paper\, fabric\, inks\, pencil and sewing machine stitches. Using mixed media enabled me to create visual interest and tension on the surface\, emphasizing the beauty and wisdom of my subject. The layering process represents my long history with quilt making\, especially my delight at creating details that can only be appreciated close up. Lastly the stitching is an integral part of my work. Not only is the stitching a part of my history\, it is the common thread between us all. \nIt is my hope that viewers will connect with the narratives woven within each piece. From strength to vulnerability\, resilience to introspection\, “I SEE YOU” is especially sensitive to how woman have struggled to feel ”seen” in history. It is an exploration of identity\, empowerment\, and the universal threads that bind us all. Step into my world where through the language of art\, the female narrative takes center stage.

The collective was formed by three people\, Cary Schatz\, JC Yepes and David Marion. Although artistically rooted in Street Photography and Documentary\, Chopped Liver is focused on highlighting all local artists. As the name implies\, the purpose was to give attention to artists not typically recognized. \nThis exhibition is titled Chopped Liver – Portraits\, all presenters will be showing portraits in photography and other mediums.

DESCRIPTION:The Exposure Photo Fest runs for the month of February in galleries and non-traditional art spaces across Calgary. cSPACE is proud to participate with galleries on all four levels of cSPACE Marda Loop.  \nCROSSING BOUNDARIES – CAPTURING THE HUMAN CONDITION \nPhotographer: Dipankar Mukherjee\nHallway Gallery Level 4\ncSPACE Marda Loop\nFor the month of February \nThis exhibition shares documentary photographs of humans taken in different settings to give us a further understanding of our race. What we do with this realization is another matter. What boundaries do we cross? What boundaries do we attempt to cross? Why do we even bother? Does this cause any action for change? These are the questions the photographer will want the viewers to get involved with. \nThe photographs are not meant to be “art.” The human condition is reflected as it is. I strongly believe that the places where the photographs were taken have relevance to the context. Necessity of Hope at the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro\, a Cuban face\, a sculpture of a woman in chains in Zanzibar\, Keepers of the Gorillas in Rwanda\, and others are very relevant to their locations. They reflect the uniqueness of the human condition as the location dictates\, but what is expressed in the faces is universal.

Music has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up\, music was always playing in my household and I was exposed to different types of music\, as well as cultures. Along with music came my love for singing and writing. I love to tell stories and express difficult emotions through songs. I’m deeply inspired by history\, especially\, the 1940s\, 50s and 60s\, I believe it was a beautiful a well as magical time for music. I enjoy the whimsical nostalgic comfort you get from listening to an old-time Jazz record. DESCRIPTION:Camino\, Greg Doherty\nLevel 2 cSPACE Marda Loop\nMarch 18-April 29 \nGreg draws his inspirations from art history\, nature\, light\, colours and shadows\, as shown in this exhibition. He collects the beauty of landscapes and will occasionally translate his feelings into an abstraction. \nArtist Statement \nMy original camino walk was from Saint Jean Pieds-de-Port in France to Santiago\, Spain for a total distance of 820 km. More recently\, my wife\, Lory and I\, have walked a couple more Caminos of Santiago. Our starting points have been Porto\, Portugal and Ferrol\, Spain. This latest walk included a trip to the “end of the world\,” Finisterre. \nAll along the different routes there is so much beauty. I have felt the need to respond to these beautiful scenes with some paintings. This show contains some of these efforts as well as a few other pieces that were inspired by our surroundings in Alberta. \nMy expressions move between representations and abstractions . The Camino of life moves me along a variety of roads and it is my goal to continue on this artistic path.
