Learn how to extract beautiful colours from different plants using only the sun to drive the process. \nThis workshop will be an introduction to solar dyeing using foraged plants\, kitchen scraps and fabric remnants. We will discuss responsible and ethical harvesting for natural dyes\, as well as fabric preparation including scouring and mordanting. This workshop will spark your curiosity as well as give you the tools to continue this experimentation all year long\, using only the power of the sun to apply colour to cloth/yarn in natural materials of cotton/linen/silk/ wool. Once you try this technique\, everything has the potential to become dye – from your compost to spent blooms.

DESCRIPTION:Ready to experience an event around the Calgary Stampede that amplifies the true spirit of Indigenous culture? \nHello Summer 2023\, presented by Four Winds Indigenous Showcase takes place at cSPACE Calgary from July 6th to July 8th and promises to be the perfect prelude to the Stampede\, bringing together Indigenous-owned businesses\, leaders\, artists\, fashion designers\, and well-known musicians\, for a celebration of arts and culture. \n  \nThis growing cultural phenomenon is a three-day extravaganza featuring an impressive lineup of talent\, including singer/songwriters Lena Daniels\, Amanda Gendron & Curt Young\, who will grace the stage with their captivating performances. Attendees can also look forward to a cutting-edge fashion show from innovative Indigenous designers. Twinkledoins have lost their twinkle and Yonda\, the heart of Yabber\, grows weak. Yabberites are consumed by frivolous distractions\, and it will take the efforts of unlikely heroes to right this sinking ship. It’s not really a ship though. It’s a town. Just to be clear… \nWe bring you a cautionary yet whimsical musical junk tale that will leave you snapping your fingers and tapping your toes.
