SUMMARY:EXHIBITION: Gilded Memory\, Clouded Truth by Michelle Atkinson and Danielle Bartlette
DESCRIPTION:Gilded Memory\, Clouded Truth by Michelle Atkinson and Danielle Bartlette \ncSPACE Marda Loop\nLevel 1 \nSeptember 22 – November 3\, 2025\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \nGildedMemory\, Clouded Truth presents the work of Michelle Atkinson and Danielle Bartlette\, two artists whose practices approach truth through layers of beauty\, memory\, and allure. \nAtkinson transforms raw climate data into silkscreened forms that recall clouds\, candy\, and dreamscapes. These luminous surfaces veil the wildfires and environmental upheaval beneath\, asking viewers to look closer at the stories we sugarcoat. \nBartlette’s mixed-media paintings reassemble memory through texture\, collage\, and embellishment. Her work navigates romance\, urban landscapes\, and personal history\, turning fragments of lived experience into lush abstractions. Placed side by side\, the works spark dialogue about what is hidden and what is revealed. Whether through the shimmer of glitter or the glint of gold leaf\, both artists remind us that surfaces hold weight — and beauty often conceals a more complicated truth. \nMore from the Artists: \nMichelle Atkinson – michelle-atkinson.ca \nDanielle Bartlette – neonmilkshake.com

SUMMARY:EXHIBITION: Where the Land Cradles Me by Carrie Schurig
DESCRIPTION:Where the Land Cradles Me by Carrie Schurig \ncSPACE Marda Loop\nCubby Gallery Level 2 \nSeptember 27 – December 1\, 2025 – HELD OVER UNTIL DECEMBER 1\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \nWhere the Land Cradles Me is a series of mixed-media paintings\, with each work carrying more than a single story; many stories\, many voices\, many landscapes\, many truths interwoven. \nThe surfaces hold tension and harmony\, permanence beside change\, silence beside song\, and memory beside dream. Yet these contrasts remind us of what is at stake. The land that cradles us is under threat\, and climate justice is not optional; it is essential. \nThis series asks viewers to consider how place is never one story but a gathering of countless narratives\, layered across time\, culture\, and imagination. It calls on viewers to recognize our shared responsibilities to protect the places that shape us. The land is more than a backdrop; it is a lifeline. It is about how the land cradles us all\, differently and together\, shaping the stories we live and pass on. To honour it means to act\, to defend its stories\, its balance and its future. \nAbout the Artist: \nCarrie Schurig is a Calgary-based artist whose work spans pencil drawing\, mixed media\, and painted resin\, Conceptual and representational\, her pieces explore memory\, emotion\, and the layered connections between people and place. Her current series is deeply rooted in her relationship with the land\, reflecting on how it shapes identity\, belonging\, and our sense of time. \nIn addition to her studio practice\, Carrie is a Visual Arts Specialist and Fine Arts Learning Leader with the Calgary Board of Education\, guiding students and communities to engage meaningfully with the arts. She is also embarking on a Master of Education for Change\, exploring how education can drive social and environmental transformation. \nThrough her art and teaching\, Carrie offers a distinct\, thoughtful\, and imaginative perspective on the world\, one that invites reflection\, curiosity\, and connection.

SUMMARY:EXHIBITION: Blue. by Margo Smith
DESCRIPTION:Blue. by Margo Smith  \ncSPACE Marda Loop\nCubby Gallery Level 2 \nOctober 20 – November 8\, 2025\n8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Closed Sundays) \nMargo’s artistic practice focuses on cyanotypes and paper sculpture. Cyanotypes are a camera-less photographic process developed in 1842\, in which paper or fabric is coated with a light-sensitive chemical solution and exposed to sunlight or UV light\, producing the deep blue pigment known as Prussian blue. \nThe works in this exhibition are photograms\, created by placing objects directly onto the light-sensitive surface to form negative images. Margo explores abstract compositions using transparent materials such as vellum\, plastics\, and paper. Through this process\, she captures the physical ways light interacts with each material\, producing soft\, layered images that evoke a floating sense of depth. \nGuided by an interest in geometric shapes\, lines\, and patterns\, Margo’s practice examines how forms shift through process and material. A core aspect of the cyanotype method for her is the balance between control and unpredictability—unexpected results often lead to new inspiration and direction\, allowing projects to evolve organically from hands-on experimentation. \nMany of the prints serve as foundations for Margo’s three-dimensional sculptures and installations. By reimagining a traditionally two-dimensional medium as sculptural form\, she investigates how light\, texture\, and structure can extend an image beyond a flat plane. Hand stitching and embroidery appear throughout her work\, adding tactile detail and emphasizing the transformation from print to object. \nAbout the Artist: \nMargo Smith is a Calgary based artist and educator\, committed to making visual arts accessible for all. She designs and leads workshops\, programs\, and gallery experiences that make art feel accessible\, engaging\, and relevant. Her art practice is focused on cyanotypes and paper sculpture. \nContact Info:\nunravelarts.ca\n@unravelarts.education\nunravelartseducation@gmail.com
