The exhibition brings together the works of students and participants who make up the vibrant Atelier Artista studio community. \nAtelier Artista is home to a diverse group of creatives from all walks of life\, with a wide range of backgrounds\, skill levels\, and artistic goals. Some artists take classes\, while others join weekly drop-in sessions—often working on different days and rarely crossing paths. This annual exhibition offers a chance to unite their creativity in a shared gallery space. \nRather than presenting classroom assignments\, the show highlights each artist’s personal voice and vision\, expressed through the craft they develop at the Atelier. The result is a dynamic collection that reflects both individuality and the collective spirit of creativity that defines Atelier Artista. \n*Many of the pieces are available for sale. It’s a celebration of women who are part of a growing movement to challenge the false narrative that beauty fades with age. \nThe Fabulous Over 40 Art Exhibit shines a spotlight on the portraits and stories of women aged 40 and up. \nInstead of being shamed into the shadows\, each of these women chose to step into the light. \nThey said yes to a transformative boudoir portrait experience. They said yes to being seen. Boldly\, vulnerably\, and without apology. \nThe goal? To rewrite the story: Women over 40 are beautiful. The ticking clock is a myth. And the years ahead are something to look forward to. \nAs an artist and photographer\, my mission is to challenge outdated beauty standards and offer a new perspective. One that I see for myself every day as a boudoir photographer for women over 40. We’ve been sold a lie. There is no expiration date on beauty. Let me prove it to you! \nThis exhibit is proof that beauty exists in every chapter of life\, and that it’s never too late to feel truly seen. \nAbout the Artist \nWebsite: www.lauriemacbrownphotography.com \nYou may know me as your photographer\, but what you might not know is why I do this. \nI started photographing women to figure out the secret to looking good in photos\, because I never liked photos of myself\, and I thought there was something wrong with me. What I’ve learned is this: being photogenic is not about how you look on the outside. It’s about feeling beautiful and having someone capture that so you can see it too. \nToday\, I’m an accredited\, multi award-winning portrait photographer\, and my mission is to show women\, especially those over 40\, that every body is beautiful and worthy of being photographed\, even without clothes on. \nI invite you to see yourself\, and women like you\, in a whole new light.

Filmed above and below the surface\, subtle ripples\, reflections\, and light guide each brushstroke. The works capture fleeting moments of water\, inviting reflection on nature’s rhythms and patterns. \nThe exhibition will be on view from September 9 to October 6. DESCRIPTION:Wood Reimagined: John Groen Artist Reception\nHosted by Alberta Craft Council\n______ \nEveryone is invited to meet the artist at this free SPOTLIGHT Reception for Wood Reimagined – John Groen\n\n\nWe are please to host a public reception with the artist in attendance on September 20 from 2-4 pm. \nAbout the artist John Groen \nArtist Statement: I have always been passionate about designing and creating unique items from wood. My father’s creativity and resourcefulness inspired me as I watched him transform what others considered unusable wood into functional and beautiful furniture. I strive to blend traditional craftsmanship with playful innovation. \nMy signature material is dyed maple veneer\, often used in skateboards. Through experimental bending\, layering\, and lamination\, I combine these colourful sections with various other wood species to create bowls\, charcuterie boards\, tables\, and wall art. Sustainability is at the core of my work. Each piece is intentionally crafted from repurposed or leftover wood\, adding history and character to every creation. My craft is about giving old wood new stories—stories that you can eat from\, set items on\, or proudly display on your walls. \nArtist Bio: John is a lifelong learner and community-oriented maker who has honed his craft through practical work experience. He is a former woodworking teacher and holds a cabinet-making certification from SAIT. His skills have been enriched by collaborating with fellow members at his local makerspace\, as well as through personal exploration and experimentation. Operating under the name Mient Woodworking\, John has been a member of the Alberta Craft Council since 2022. He has also been a part of Fuse33 Makerspace since 2018 and is a member of Hand Made Here YYC\, a collective of local artisans in Calgary. \nReception: Saturday\, September 20\, 2025 | 2 – 4 pm \nAlberta Craft SPOTLIGHT – cSPACE – Marda Loop\, 2nd floor\, 1729 – 29 Avenue SW\, Calgary \nThe parking lot and accessible entrance are off 29 Avenue.
