SUMMARY:Inter(connected)
DESCRIPTION:Level 4 Gallery \nInter(connected) is an exhibition of work by the 2022-2023 hear/d residency artist cohort: Ella Crompton\, Brendan Djentle Hamilton\, Liz Kim\, AJ Kluck\, Sydney Paquette\, Sid Serafin\, Jiaqi Shi\, Juli Song\, Sasha Terway and Christina Yao. \nEach of these artists were prompted to explore themes of mental health and resiliency in ways that resonated with them. Artists met weekly\, throughout the school year\, in meetings facilitated by peer-mentors Elise Lavallee Findlay and Levin Ifko. Through discussions\, as well as their own musings and experiences\, they created Inter(connected)\, an exhibition that explores each artists’ relationships to vulnerability\, growth\, tension and in-betweenness\, in ways that are so much more than linear. \nThe Hear/d Residency is a program where residents collaborate on the research\, development\, creation and curation of an exhibition that explores the theme of mental health.

SUMMARY:Hippocrates - Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 Alberta election is imminent. Find out why the privatization of our healthcare system is a huge problem.\n\n\nHealthcare Documentary Screening – Calgary \nJoin us for an in-person screening of an eye-opening documentary that sheds light on the privatization of Alberta’s healthcare system. This event will take place on Thu May 18 2023. Doors will open at 6:00 PM in the cSPACE studio theatre. \nIn a showdown between unions and free-market capitalism\, a college-aged protagonist\, challenges a powerful conservative Health Minister whose controversial decisions have led to an exodus of doctors and nurses leaving Alberta. Health Law professors\, politicians\, healthcare workers\, and union leaders will be interviewed to find out who wins and who loses under a two-tiered healthcare system. More broadly\, the film will explore if Canadian universal healthcare is being threatened. \nThe documentary explores the challenges faced by patients and healthcare professionals alike and offers a unique perspective on the state of healthcare in Canada. After the screening\, we will have a Q&A session with U of C Health Law professor Lorian Hardcastle and filmmaker Kieran Fong. \nThis is a great opportunity to learn more about healthcare in Canada and connect with others who are passionate about improving the system. Don’t miss out! \n\n\n\nAbout the filmmakers: \nKIERAN FONG is an Edmontonian documentary filmmaker whose films focus on poignant social issues. In his first film\, EXODUS: A VIETNAMESE REFUGEE’S JOURNEY TO CANADA\, he explored his dad’s harrowing journey as a Vietnamese refugee. He has received praise from numerous professional documentary filmmakers including those who have worked with the National Film Board of Canada and those who have attended Hot Docs\, North America’s largest documentary festival. \n \nAMAIR JAVAID is a Canadian filmmaker based in Calgary\, Alberta. His previous film HAFIZ focused on the struggle of a recent immigrant’s quest to become a doctor. He interviewed several medical students when conducting research for the story\, where he learned about the traumatizing things doctors and healthcare workers must see. HAFIZ was nominated for several local awards and screened internationally at film festivals worldwide\, and can now be viewed on YouTube.
